Usually only mil-sims have unified animations, but FWH made it work for a fast-paced FPS. Given this game fully renders the player model, I think the balance between responsiveness and physicality in control is exemplary. But it was worth it! Especially since now there is no falling damage, and while there are plenty of chasms, the physics overall feel fair. Framerates were halved or worse compared to the OG for me, and I'm pretty sure I've shortened my system's lifespan by a few months. SW2 looks gorgeus and runs well for what it offers, but it is VERY DEMANDING. And finally, the most bittersweet aspect.the engine. It really doesn't matter much and it's clear FWH need someone else to do the writing. Granted, the story is easier to follow a bit, but the game also has a metric f*ck-ton of lore within the hundreds of documents you pick up. You can technically craft better gems (weapons are ALL pre-defined) later in the game, but 90% of the time the resulting gems come out random or with some crippllng side-effects, so basically you might as well not bother. And while there's a ton of loot, most of it sucks. While the former may be somewhat true (if you're fine with generated, soulless, forgettable content), the latter doesn't apply at all and given the work necessary to make sure things don't break beyond repair, I can imagine they came to regret the decision to implement PG later during development. They probably bought into the then-hype that procedural generation is a silver bullet that allows infinite content with little work. Luckily headshots still work so overall I have to question the decision-making involved. Text indicators made sense in the 90's, but now? It seems contrived. Given the game has dozens of enemies and some have visible particle effects indicating their "element", I have to wonder why FWH didn't go the extra mile. Some enemies are visibly "fiery" or "icy" while others simply have text indicators. The environmental effects are an interesting addition, but it feels half-assed. Even the mini-bosses and large enemies do not feel spongy at all, if purely because they have health bars now. It's just another looter shooter.is what I would be saying if the combat wasn't ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. SW2 uses procedural generation and when combined with blatant asset recycling, it leads to a forgettable experience. There's only a few maps that you will replay over and over and while the general layouts and item placements are randomized, there is nothing particularly memorable here, especially since the assets are clearly recycled from the first game. I don't recommend playing this game unless you like looter shooters like Borderlands.ģ1h Played+Spectacular graphics, excellent art direction +Second-to-none combat with almost perfect balancing +Good story that is a bit easier to follow -Writing is still VERY hit or miss -Bloated, padded, even lazy at times If the OG SW was a brilliant game with a few faults, SW2 is also a brilliant game with some regrettable faults. Thankfully it isn't that long, as it only took me around 10 hours even when I did all of the side missions. I didn't care for any of the characters either (except Lo Wang of course - I swear his jokes never get old and I can't explain why.) They ruined Ameonna from the previous game and I couldn't stand the new partner character Kamiko. The story, on the other hand, wasn't engaging at all and ends on an unsatisfying cliffhanger. At least the FPS combat itself works well and most of the weapons were fun to use. I only focused on quest encounters and I never had to grind once. I also found that there was no reason to fight the random enemies since they hardly dropped anything worthwhile, at least on normal difficulty. The levels are somewhat randomly (procedurally?) generated, which means instead of well designed areas with particular encounters, enemies just randomly show up as you're traveling around the map. And since this game's gameplay is similar to that one, I found myself getting bored a lot while playing it. I've only played a couple of hours of each Borderlands game and I've gotten bored every time. This game is more of a looter shooter, like Borderlands, instead of an arena shooter, like the previous one. 10h 12m PlayedI loved the first Shadow Warrior (2013), but I didn't enjoy this one.
